8 Ways to Prep for Winter

Updated: Nov 2, 2022

Don't let winter emergencies catch you off guard. Now that the crisp evenings have crept in and the leaves are showing off their autumn blaze, it's time to squirrel away your winter essentials!

  1. Stock up on canned soups, 7up, and crackers. Flu season isn't too far away. If you want, get your flu shot while you're at it.

  2. Update and refresh your vehicle's emergency kit. You'll be happy to have warm clothing that fits your whole family and snacks that have not expired.

  3. Stock medications like Tylenol, cough drops, and Pepto Bismil. Sickness can strike without warning, but if you're ready, you'll manage it better.

  4. Inspect your winter jackets for holes, bad zippers, or damage from mice while they were in storage. Fall is a fantastic time to repair these items, not when it's subzero.

  5. Have your furnace inspected and cleaned.

  6. Install plastic on drafty windows and colder rooms in the house.

  7. Think about Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other holidays your family might celebrate. Now is a great time to build up your supplies for these seasons. We never know when a new supply chain crisis will arise. Fall is a prime time to stock up on your holiday needs.

  8. Sweep your chimney.
