There's nothing quite like fresh homemade pizza! đ This recipe is taste-tested by the most harsh food critics I know, my 3 and 5 year old boys. They can't get enough of our homemade pizza!
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon sugar (optional)
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons olive oil divided
1 cup warm water divided
1 packet instant yeast
Combine 1/2 cup of water and yeast in a bowl and allow the mixture to sit for 10 minutes.
While waiting on the yeast, mix the remaining dry ingredients together in a separate bowl.
Add in half the oil to the yeast mixture. Use the other half to grease a bowl. This bowl is where the dough will rest for 30-60 minutes.
Add the dry ingredients with the half cup yeast mixture and the remaining water and form the dough into a ball.
Place the dough into the greased bowl and cover for 30 to 60 minutes.
Allow the pizza stone to warm up in the oven while it preheats to 450 degrees.
Roll with a rolling pin on a well-floured surface. I usually roll my dough on a piece of parchment paper to allow an easy transfer to the pizza stone. It also prevents the dough from sticking to the stone.
Remove the hot stone and transfer the dough onto it.
Build your pizza as desired and bake for 12-15 minutes.
SERVES 4-6 PEOPLE
This recipe makes two thin crust pizzas or one deep dish.
Make ahead for future pizza nights!
I'm always a fan of cooking once and eating twice! This pizza dough will freeze well for up to 1 month so it's easy for meal prepping. Put the dough into a freezer friendly bag and press out the air. Don't forget to date the bag before storing it in the freezer.
Stuffed crust pizza option
If you love stuffed crust, try this. Cut up string cheese in half-inch chunks and place them around the pizza ( about 1 1/2 inches from the edge) then fold the outer edges to cover the cheese. Delicious!
